Aalborg is dominated by traditional Danish cuisine, which is famous for its variety of fish dishes, desserts and beer


The popular smørrebrød sandwiches, multi-layered sandwiches, are the most famous food in Aalborg. In any restaurant or cafe you will find these and you can choose from many ingredients such as meats, vegetables or even fruits. They can be as many layers as you can imagine and they are also very instagrammable.


Aalborg is a fishing town and its main production is Salmon. Therefore, you will find different presentations of this fish in different meals and specialties. However, in restaurants you will find different accompaniments for this fish depending on the time of year and the ingredients available to accompany it, so it will be a unique experience for you and your palate.



Another animal that is widely consumed is the pork, due to the influence of other Danish countries. Usually, it is served with purple cabbage and pork soup.



Something that cannot be missing are the desserts of different wild fruits such as blackberries, strawberries and raspberries; among others such as pineapple or apple. In the cafeterias you can enjoy a coffee accompanied by a pie or cake of the flavor that you prefer; its flavor is impossible to forget.


Finally, you will find beer in bars throughout the city so the yellow holy grail will not be missing in each of your meals, this beer is craft, and you will enjoy every drop.

Today Aalborg is one of the most important cities in Northern Jutland (Nordjylland). It is known that the first settlement in Aalborg dates back to 700 AD. One of the most important aspects in Aalborg and that makes it one of the most important centers, not only of the Country of Denmark, but of commerce, is the fact that it is the closest point to the Limfjord. The name itself of Aalborg was first made known in the 11th century, the first written mention was in the year 1040, but with a different name, “Alabu” (the place by the stream).
